US Students Attend Model UN Conference

October 27, 2023

Seven MMFS students attended the Model UN conference at Horace Mann this past Saturday, along with hundreds of other middle and high school students from the New York City area. Model UN gives students an opportunity to participate in debate about international affairs. In order to participate in the various committees and meetings, our school’s delegation was given assignments: Annabel L., Kalilah H., Lamar N., Nate R., and Sebastian R. represented Belgium. Zoe H. and Atti S-L were in Crisis Groups, with Zoe representing NASA scientist Zena Cardman and Atti representing American singer, choreographer, and YouTuber Todrick Hall. The MMFS delegates attended:

  • DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee) Weaponizing Small Pox
  • SPECPOL (Special Political and Decolonization Committee) Repatriation of Victims of Colonization
  • UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) The Effort to Fight Tax Evasion
  • ISS (International Space Station)
  • Taylor Swift Management Board (which, before you ask, simulated a crisis management meeting among members of Taylor Swift’s management board, shareholders in Scooter Braun’s company, Ithaca Holdings, and executives of Big Machine Label Group. [Parents: Ask your kids. Or Google it.]

Congrats to our students, and thank you to Ciro Scala and Stephanie Shore, advisors of the Model UN co-curricular, and Bertholet Fils-Aime for chaperoning.
