Alumni Spotlight: Jason Mendelson

December 15, 2016

Jason Mendelson attended MMFS from 2001-2007*.  After MMFS, he attended Bay Ridge Prep for a year and then moved on to York Prep, where he graduated from high school.  Following high school, he enrolled at the University of New Hampshire.

Jason says that being away from home and meeting new people was an interesting experience.  He enjoyed his general education courses because they were wide-ranging. After being in New Hampshire for two years, he decided that it made more sense for him to come back to New York City and attend Hunter College.  At Hunter, he majored in history with a concentration in philosophy. He decided to be a history major due to his interest in history, politics, and economics. He graduated from Hunter in June of this year.

Jason is now 23 years old and lives in Brooklyn Heights.  He works for a government contractor interviewing and doing background checks on individuals who are interested in entering TSA affiliated programs.  Since his office is located at LaGuardia Airport, he is constantly running into celebrities and politicians.

Jason enjoys watching films, reading, blogging, and writing short stories, and he has been a contributor to the Huffington Post.  He also likes to spend time with friends and family. He explains that as he’s getting older, he has realized the importance of being practical, and thinking about what’s best for the future and his family.  At the same time, he would also like to find a career that makes him happy and would allow him to put friends and family first if needed.

Jason attributes much of his academic success to MMFS.  He says that without the school’s help in overcoming his learning issues, he would not have been able to achieve so much academically and in his new career.

* At that time, MMFS did not have a high school.
