Vienna, Salzburg, Munich: 9th Grade Journey to Europe

May 18, 2016

This month ninth grade students and some upper school staff members traveled to Austria and Germany to experience history, look at world-class art first-hand, and explore ancient cities. The week-long trip began in Vienna, where we rode Hitchcock’s famous ferris wheel and took a boat through the locks of the Danube. We also dined on schnitzel and goulash. From there we climbed the Austrian Alps, tunneling through a salt mine and taking in breathtaking views. The Sound of Music bike tour left us with many memories and a few scratches but we loved singing along with the dinner theatre actors to all of our favorite songs from the movie. Before arriving in Munich we paid a wet and somber visit to the Dachau concentration camp. We also saw the glockenspiel in action and had an entrancing visit to a soccer stadium. These important experiences brought the group closer together and created lasting memories.
