Rehearsals for the middle school production of Matilda the Musical Jr. are officially underway!
Based on the children’s novel of the same name by Roald Dahl, Matilda the Musical Jr. is the story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires. Director Suzanne Leake says, “I’ve always loved the story of Matilda, and I know that our students will relate to the story of a little girl who uses her brilliance to overcome obstacles and change lives.”
Video audition submissions were due on Wednesday, and rehearsals for the cast began on Monday. Roles haven’t been assigned yet – instead, the cast spent the week singing, reading through the script, and watching the movie.
Putting on a show this ambitious is a full-year project, and there are many ways for students to participate, on-stage and off-stage. In addition to the actors, set designers and techies are a big part of the show; their work begins in the second trimester. To produce this rollicking musical, Suzanne, Assistant Director John Grimsley, and Music Director Catherine Leto-Carboy will be joined by a team of teachers who are eager to get involved and help the cast and crew navigate their way through this experience.
If you’re new to MMFS or you haven’t been to a middle school production before, you are in for a treat. Mark your calendars for May 3rd and 4th (tentative) to see Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical Jr.
