The Middle Division began the year with lots of excitement. Our annual day of community building at Prospect Park was ready to go on the second day of school but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate with our plans. Some quick thinking and lots of cooperation made for a fun day of indoor activities instead. The students rotated between karaoke, dance competitions, lots of gym games and fun art projects. These activities had us all laughing and playing together. New friendships were formed and old friendships rekindled after a long hot summer. It was one of the best Field Days we ever had.
During the first week of school, the students selected their first trimester clubs, which are held every Friday afternoon. This session students are cooking foods from all nations, playing old fashioned school house games, soccer and badminton, and going for a run. They are also making sets for the MS play and doing complicated coloring. Fridays at Summit Street are filled with good times!
After the school day is over the Middle Division continues to buzz with activity. This year MS students will be performing The Lion King and students have been auditioning for roles. The middle school play is not to be missed so look for an invite in April! In addition, 7th and 8th grade students tried out for the volleyball and soccer teams. We are looking forward to a great sport season. You will surely catch “Lightning Fever” if you attend a game, as the MS community has lots of school spirit!! And finally, auditions were held for the MMFS Chamber Chorus, and students will soon be auditioning for the all-school chorus as well.
The MMFS school-wide mini-unit is officially underway. This year we are focusing on Silence. We have had a few Middle Division silences, and as always, they are a time for quiet reflection and sharing of important thoughts.
We’ll keep you posted on all of our wonderful MS events throughout the year. Don’t forget October is the month we host our legendary 11th annual Halloween Bash!
