Since his beautiful and moving speech at the Class of 2019 commencement ceremony, MMFS graduate Jalen Myles has been quite busy. When he isn’t attending class at Borough of Manhattan Community College, Jalen is accepting calls to work on your favorite TV shows. A member of the Screen Actors Guild, Jalen spent last summer hard at work as a background actor for the upcoming film Boogie (directed by Eddie Huang, author of the book that inspired the TV show Fresh off the Boat).
To Jalen, television and film are interesting fields to pursue because people will always want to be entertained, and he is glad to be a part of bringing joy to the world through media. The most difficult part of the job, he shared, is that when he gets called for a television show, he has to stay on set until they get the perfect take. Sometimes, he even has to film scenes that are set during the winter in the middle of the summer, which means standing on set all day in the heat wearing full-on winter wear! Jalen hopes that his experience on TV and movie sets will prepare him for his future goal of being a sound engineer. He is currently reading The Sound Reinforcement Handbook to learn more about sound engineering.
