Imagine you’re on your school basketball team, working hard and dreaming of playing in the NBA or WNBA someday. Now imagine you find yourself playing on the court at the Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty. Dreams came true for all five MMFS basketball teams when they suited up to scrimmage at Barclays on February 7th, stepping onto the court where some of the world’s best athletes compete.
Each team – our middle school girls team and boys team and three upper school teams: girls junior varsity, boys junior varsity, and boys varsity – was given about 25 minutes of court time. They played in front of an energetic crowd made up of our 4th and 5th graders. A large group of parents and the other team members were also cheering the athletes on. The atmosphere was electric. Music was playing, baskets were dropping, our school mascot was handing out green and white beads and pom poms, and spirits were high. The excitement was contagious as approximately 350 attendees came together to cheer on our basketball teams.
But the fun didn’t stop there. After the scrimmages, the excitement carried over into the night as about 250 MMFS community members attended the Brooklyn Nets game at the Barclays Center. The energy in the arena was palpable as the Nets defeated the Miami Heat with an impressive score of 102-86, and our community cheered with pride. It was a day to remember, showing how dedication, community support, and a little bit of magic can bring dreams to life.
Thank you to our Athletics Director Justin Schuhmacher for organizing this very special event.
